excessive saliva

Having had brain surgery on the 14 nov I have had excessive saliva
only on the right hand side of my mouth
how long will this last and what can i do to help myself
this is becoming very troublesome and is also affecting my speech

What was the indication for your brain surgery?

Which part of the brain was involved? Mainly the right side?

You have noted that excessive salivation seemed to be localized in the right side.This may point to a nerve problem. Problems concerning cranial nerve 7 may lead to excessive salivation ( drooling or ptyalism).It is the nerve responsible for regulating salivary secretion of the glands
(submandibular,sublingual and parotids) responsible for saliva production.

Excessive salivation may be due to peptic ulcer disease, pancreatitis, stroke,oral and dental infections, anatomical deformities involving the jaw or tongue.

I suggest you follow up with your neurosurgeon or neurologist for further work up.

I had meningococcal medioma removed (approx size 6x4x5 inches) on the left frontal lobe

I had excessive salivation over a four-day period, so much so that I was not able to go to work. This four-day attack occurred four different times and started around the time I began using Listerine. When I stopped using Listerine, the attacks also stopped. Of course, I have no proof of causation, but I guess the alcohol in the mouthwash dried my throat to the point that it became irritated and this caused the excess saliva. The attacks came once every six months or so, and since I stopped using Listerine two years ago, I have thankfully not had an attack.
