exercise with occipital neuralgia?

I am 42 years old and recently started running, and training for my first 5K. I had headaches prior to being diagnosed last week with occipital neuralgia. I have stopped running because I am afraid it will worsen my pain. Is it safe to run with this? I am scheduled to have a nerve block next week. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated...
