eyepatch side swithc (3d nerve palsy)

Hi everyone, so the day before yesterday, I woke up with double vision.  It didn't clear up within half hour so off the ER I went.  Blood pressure was 176/125 and ct scan did not show anything unusual.  ER doc said it was most likely 3d nerve palsy (pupil is normal, not blown)  going to optometrist day after tomorrow and hopefully the family doc same day (need to rule out diabetes etc) Yes, I was given blood pressure meds (amlodipine 5mg once per day)  My question is, should I only be covering the bad eye (helps eliminate double vision) or should i be switching sides with the eye patch?  I find if I cover the good eye, I get dizzy using the bad eye (I'm assuming this is because it won't move properly.)  I am a 46 year old overweight female (209pds and losing, slowly but surely) I also waiting for a neurologists appointment but it will probably be 3 weeks before I'm in (Canada-unless you're in life/death situation, you wait) I am NOT looking forward to the recovery time, any recover already? was it quick or gradual?
