Hello, Rick.  I am sorry to hear about your friend.  There are social workers and financial counselors  at  most hospitals which help arrange finances and may be key players for him.  Below I have typed the names and addresses of three associations who may  be able to provide other information on any financial assistance that might be available for your friend.  These may also be a good source of information for other things regarding his injury, too.  I wish your friend a speedy recovery.
