: My wife has been suffering from migraines for the last 12 years.
We have recently determined that most of her headaches have occurred after
eating foods containing aged cheese.  We were told that the tyramine in
these foods is a migraine trigger.  We are looking for as complete a list
as possible of foods containing levels of tyramine that are sufficient to
trigger a migraine.  Any help available would be appreciated.

Dear Greg:
An incomplete list of tyramine containing foods is as under:
Aged, pickled, smoked, or fermented high-protein foods.
Aged cheeses, pickled herring, red wine, beer, liver, yeast (in large quantity), pepperoni and salami, fava beans, yogurt, and some nuts.
The best source to look for these is the  pharmacist; these foods are forbidden for patients on medications called MAO inhibitors, which are used for depression. Your wife probably does not need to be as strict.
