forgetful or is it a low IQ

may child is 6 years old and he has having a hard time to read.. he always forget what he just read. how will i help him out. what is the cause of hi being forgetfulness or is it a low IQ? will i have to consult to doctor? what specialist will i look for?

Hi there. You need to understand that children in this agegroup have various other priorities and distractions cluttered up in their minds and memory lapses of bookish knowledge can be anticipated. So instead of pressurizing the child with expectations try to help your child out by being supportive. You could leave notes and reminders for things you want him to remember. You could reinforce the points time and again that you want him to keep a tab of. Ask him to recall often and give him clues. Try to solve mind games and brain teasers and puzzles with him to enrich his mind. You could take assistance of his pediatrician by confiding in the doctor your concerns, Take care.
