gait problem in elderly

One family friend of mine ,75M,H/O CVA with left hemiparesis for last 4 years,also had coronary stunt implanted.For last 2 months  he has developed a tendency of falling backwards while walking,occassionaly slants more to right side.His gait is almost drunken type,also lost balance on two three ocassions and hurt himself.His neurologist has not comfirmed the diagnosis of parkinson but has put him on  mild dose of dopamine.After two weeks of therpy there is not any significant change.He is having regular physical therapy also.What else can we do to improve his balance and gait?
