Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

I am sorry to hear about your girlfriend but am glad to hear that she is doing better. It is always difficult to say who is going to make a full recovery and who is not, especially in the acute phase. Given that she is doing so well, a substantial recovery may be possible. I would highly suggest that your girlfriend participate in cognitive rehabilitation after discharge and perhaps have neuro-psychiatric testing to formally determine what damage has been done. She may also benefit from counseling to determine why she attempted suicide and what can be done to prevent another attempt. Lastly, she should follow up with a neurologist for periodic physical examinations.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
