glioblastoma multiforme in layman's terms

Hi my name is Sandy. I'm 35 years old and my husband is 39. He was just diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme after they removed a large tumor from his brain. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Dear Sandy,
GBM's account for about 20% of all intracranial brain tumors.  Peak incidence is middle adult life.  It is a highly malignant tumor, which usually infiltrates the brain.  The clinical syndroms (syndromes) produced depend on the location and size of the tumor.  The natural history of GBM's is well known.  Less than 1/5 of patients survive 1 year after the onset of symptoms, and only 10% beyond 2 years.  Treatment consists of debulking the tumor; this tends to prolong survival.  Usually a maximally feasible resection is combined with external beam radiation and chemotherapy.  Localized irradiation increases survival by approximately 5 months. I hope this provides some additional information. Good Luck.
