gliosis and microvascular disease

My 87 y.o. grandmother was recently hospitalized for dizziness and leg pain.  She has no other health problems.  She just showed me a copy of her CT report and we have some questions about what the report is saying.  It states:"Findings: There is mild to moderate diffuse cerebral and cerebellar atrophy.  Gray white matter differentiation is intact.  No intracranial mass or mass effect.  No intracranial hemorrhage.  There are patchy cerebral hypodensities compatible with small vessel changes.  There are moderate calcifications within the bilateral parasellar and supraclinoid internal carotid arteries.  Impression: No acute intracranial abnormalities on unenhanced head CT. ... Patchy cerebral white matter hypodensities likely sequelae of small vessel ischemic changes."  Another report mentions gliosis and matter change being present in the anterior aspect of the left temporal horn.  What does all of this mean?  Is she in danger of having a stroke or is it just brain changes associated with aging?  She has never been sick or in the hospital before and my great grandmother lived to be 99.
