hair loss & scalp pain

My hair has been falling out for 4 years and I also have scalp pain. It feels like someone has been pulling my hair
Out on the occipital area. The pain comes and goes. I have had a biopsy by a dermatologist,  which was inconclusive.
I had an MRI, that was normal. Does anyone know who I should see or what to do? All labs normal!

I am DESPERATE & I am experiencing EXACTLY what you are going through!!! My hair loss also began 4 yrs ago, I'm 42 years old and it has been VERY COSTLY to say the least! Please, I would love to chat and am at my wits end. I've had blood tests, 3 scalp biopsy's, 3 strand tests and numerous cultures for possible Staph & Fungal infections, all NEGATIVE. I've been to 4 different doctors including John Hopkins Medical and have had a total of 50+ appointments. At this point they are just "chalking it up" to genetic hair loss due to age. However, the doctors don't know why I am experiencing such symptoms as burning, pain, pimple like bumps and welts. I know this may seem bizarre but the sound my hair makes when pulled is NOT normal and as if it is infected and extremely brittle. My crown and perimeter hairline is the worst. I have severe breakage as well.  It feels like someone is stabbing my follicles with needles and it even hurts to bend my hair.  I get little pimple like spots on scalp including at my hairline perimeter. I had an enormous amount of hair prior to this occurring that it took 4 hours to roll my hair at salon. Again, I would love to chat to see if you have been diagnosed since your post. I have done a lot of research as I AM CERTAIN there is more to this than genetics, not to mention ALL my family members all have FULL heads of hair. I recently am looking into "Temporal Arteritis" as my scalp feels dead to the touch and similar to sand paper and don't know any other route to take at this point. Anyone reading this PLEASE HELP
