hand pain and numbness

Hi, Im 31 years old and have been suffering from persistent pain in the back of my hands, most notably from my knuckles to my wrists and from wrists to elbows now for several months. Moving my middle and index fingers in particular causes pain to go shooting along my hand. At night, i suffer from severe numbness even if im not sleeping on my arm. Its worse in my right hand, although both hands are affected. I have had several incidents where i have been woken up with a severe crushing pain in my right arm which has lasted a few hours.One night it was so bad my husband thought i was having a heart attack until he realised the pain was in my right side.  I dont know why this happens. During the day i have a habit of dropping things and i get numbness in my fingers for no reason, even if im just sitting there doing nothing. When i was pregnant, the symptoms got worse and then tapered down once i had my son, but he is now 9 months old and its back again with a vengence and the Dr has ruled out carpel tunnel. Help!
