head pressure

by pandora9048, Jan 08, 2004 12:00AM
hi.  for the past few days i have been feeling pressure on top of my head.  if i touch my face (around my eyes or nose) it seems to intensify.  My question is, can this be something serious such as an aneurysm about to burst or a tumor?? It came on rather suddenly.  Im 30 y/o female and I have past medical history for anxiety and take .5 mg xanax 2x daily but have never experienced this as a symptom, so i dont think its anxiety.  im really concerned about aneurysms and tumors.  can either present itself like this?? thank you.

Tumors and aneurysms which have bled can present with headaches. However the typical presentation for tumors are other focal neurologic problems such as weakness or sensory changes. The headache associated with an aneurysm bleeding is typically severe throbbing pain associated with some intolerance to light. Therefore if this is a severe headache which is new and unusual for you, I would reccommend going to the emergency room to have this evaluated. If you have had headaches in the past which are similar or if this is a low grade headache, I would recommend contacting your primary doctor to have this evalauted. Good luck.

I'm a 32 y/o male and have for several years suffered from acute pain in the right hand side of my face. The pain centres above the right ear, and passes behind my right eye & temple, across my right cheek and sometimes into my jaw. These bouts can last up to a week, and then may not occur for another 6 months. Up or down movements of the head exaggerate the pain, and I feel a pressure build up in the sinus area.
My doctor originally diagnosed sinusitis, but I think it may be more of a mild atypical trigeminal neuralgia?
Any suggestions?

I have been suffering from this pressure in my head for years.  It tends to be at the top of my head and really bad.  I also suffer from lightheadedness.  This just seems to be getting worse by the day.  Can anyone please help me.  I do have sinus problems but is that what it is?

Wow-I am just stunned to read a common link in al of these postings-anxiety! I am searching for some support on head pressure/ear pain/dizziness and came across this page. I am a 32 year-old female with anxiety problems. I,too, worry about brain tumors more than I care to. Of late I have had ear pain, been dizzy and have some pain behind my eyes and some muscle twitching in my face. I am always amazed to think that this could all be anxiety. In reading some other chatboards, it looks like ear disorders are higher among people with anxiety. It's kind of like what came first the chicken or the egg. Did my anxiety cause a biochemical change that brought on an ear disorder (tinnitus, Meniere's disease) or is my ear pain causing me anxiety? It's a vicious cycle. Since most of the posts are by women in our 30s, I can't help but wonder if maybe we should all just go buy an island in the Carribbean and see if all of our symptoms subside!

I am 32 with head pressure, right side of face pain which includes ear and jaw. Sometimes it subsides for a few days but comes back. I have also been experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain. It starts with a pain in my upper back and ladt anywhere from half an hour to half the day. The pressure in my head gets worse when I lay down and I feel a twitching in my face. It is so weird. I have had blood work done and a catscan of my head last year but everything comes back normal. I do not know what to do next. I was in a bad car accident 1 1/2 year ago do you think that can be related?

I have read through and am relieved to see that these symptoms I am feeling are real. I was really beginning to believe I was losing it, until I have seen so many others with similar problems. I suffer from migraines with auras, but lately I have had tingling in my tongue and face, almost as if I can feel my heart beat in my head. I also suffer from anxiety and am currently taking xanax and zoloft, which do help, but these symptoms are progressing. I have seen doctors, and still do not know what is wrong, but you know when something is not right. I am generally a healthy person, and really believe that the symptoms I already described, along with abdominal symptoms are related. I feel dizziness, and am tired, but have difficulty sleeping. I just found this site tonight, while I was trying to look up my symptoms. It is sad when we have to resort to the computer to help us find out what is wrong, because noone else seems to have the answers.

i am a 17 year old male in ireland and have being suffering from pressure  around my forehead for the past 2 weeks.i am starting my exans next week and i have being to the doctor twice in the past week. he told me that they are tention headaches and percribed painkillers(aulin) first and they did not work. now he has giving me pills to relax me and they work until they wear off. he assures me that i show no symptoms of a brain tumor but i cant help feeling paranoid about it. i feel no pain with the pressure only that it is slowing me down and i am afraid that they wont go away.i dont feel streesed out about anything, i have been under worse stress last year and never had pressure pains. can you help or tell me whats wrong with me.

Hi! I have never typed anything to anyone before on the internet but I have a problem that I am not sure about and it is really scaring me.  If I cough, or laugh, or even slightly strain while going to the bathroom...it causes a severe swelling feeling to my brain or head.  It is so bad that I feel as if I am going to faint, but more seriously like my head is going to literally explode. I mean, as if it is going to explode off my body.  Then a minute later it will be okay...maybe feeling a little bruised.  It seems to be happening a little more often lately.  What do I do?  My family doctor said that he never heard of such a thing and if he sees a head doctor in the hospital he would ask about it.  That was a year ago and he never got back with me and it seems to be getting worse.  Do you have any idea what this could be or if anyone else has ever experienced this. Thanks for any help.
