headache after meneingioma resection

Hello,
My seventeen year old son has a meningioma in the foreman magnum of the brain. He under went brain surgery in july. He also had complications after surgery of aseptic meningitous and now also had sugery to but in a vp shunt. He has been complaining of headaches and dizziness on the opposite side of his surgery. Do you have any ideas on this? Is it normal to have headaches? He never had headaches when he was diagnosed in april. They were only able to remove 60% of his tumor. Could it grow that fast and cause headaches?
Please let me know if you have any ideas?
Thank You!!

We did visit with the nueorosurgeon. He feels it could be realted to a chairi malformation which would mean removing the shunt. But if he needs the shunt what will we do? have you heard of this?
Thank You

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is possible that the headaches are after effects of surgery since only 60% of menigioma could be removed. Meningiomas are slowly growing tumors so it not possible for the meningioma to grow back so fast.
Headache can also occur if there is infection in the shunt. This requires further evaluation. Please get him evaluated by his neurologist. Take care!
