hi was in hospital 6 weeks ago with viral meningitis had ct scan lumber puncture only medication painkillers i am taking 8paracetamol 4 codiene and 4ibupofen but still suffering head pain my doctors wants me to start decreasing codiene by 1 a day to begin with but because of pain which i must say is not unbearable but is constant i feel i need a stronger painkiller than paracetamol before i was ill i use to take 3 strong tablets to shift a headache any less didnot work please can you suggest anything to help thankyou  anne

Hello Dear,
Viral meningitis can cause recurrent severe headaches during the recovery phase.You should go in for a lumbar puncture to determine whether the CSF has indeed returned to normal .Treatment of postmeningitis headache is the same as treatment of any other chronic daily headaches.You should go in for a second opinion.
