headaches

i was getting headaches and diziness and went to my neoroligist.at first he said it was migraines but after mri he said i have encephalomalacia from an accident i had 30yrs ago.why did this surface now and why was it not spotted then.i find alcohol really makes things bad.will this condition get worse with time.im a 40 yr old male
