hearing noises

by buddyrex, Nov 25, 2008 08:15PM
my mother is 86 years old and she lives along.  for the last 2 years she has complained about here downstairs neighbor playing loud music and talking which we have yet to hear.  I have stayed with her over night and she would wake me saying she hears it and I don't.  She feels I think she is crazy, but she constantly calls the police who now don't even come.  She refuses to move and if she stays with me she insist that I am playing music at night too.  I am really confused as to what to do.  She insist that others are hearing the noises too, but no one wants to say anything according to her.  She will not allow me to talk to anyone in the building, I have tried with no success, everyone says they hear nothing.  What should be my next step.

I know just what you are talking about.  My mother-in-law was living with us and at 85 as she was sitting on the swing on the patio while I was raking leaves, she asked me who was singing that beautiful song.  I didn't hear anything and she even sang the little song for me but that was just the beginning of what ended up being a huge challenge for us.  I took her to a neurologist after explaining the symptoms (we had to fib to get her there) and she had many tests including an MRI and other brain tests done and was diagnosed with Alzheimers.  Later it was so bad that the diagnosis changed to Looey Body dementia which made her extremely volitle and the sweet little lady turned into someone we never thought she'd be.  I was her sole caretaker for 5.5 years here at home and I was the only one she sort of remembered, she claimed everyone else was dead.  That wonderful lady passed away the day after her 91st bithday and I hate to say it, but it was a blessing.  Before you think it's dementia you will have to have her totally checked out one way or another to rule out brain tumor or even some kind of chemical or nutritional imbalance.  Anyway, the music and other noises she heard were the very first signs of the disease.  I wish you luck and hope you get some help for her.  God bless.
