Hi there am desperate for some help.A few years ago after a bout of double vision and intenses sweating,dizziness and feeling faint(diplopia lasted 3-4mins)rest of symptoms bit longer i was eventually diagnosed as having a tia attack although my mri was not performed for 6weeks after event and it came back clear.Initially they thought it was caused by an atrial septal defect which was found and successfully repaired a year later with complete closure.However i did mention that i had previously visited a chiropracter a few times leading up to suspected brainstem tia.I have had strange symptoms of very brief visual disturbances(seems like objects have jumped or ground has moved and feelings of imbalance and dizziness all tests have come back clear including a spiral ct scan with dye,and 2 complete mra'a one done dye).All other bllod tests normal however they have found in 2 lumbar punctures 6wbc and then 17wbc in more recent one.I had really bad fall 7weeks ago where i landed on base of spine and jolt and pain radiated all way into base of skull since then i have developed weird feelings of increased inmbalance,dizziness,transitory parasthesia of left cheek and tongue ,nausea,visual disturbances, pain and stiff feeling at back of neck and head panicking in case i have dissected vertebral artery and heading for nother mini stroke or worse.I do seem to have eustachian tube dysfunction after tests were performed and also chronic severe sinusitis .If i had previous dissected artery would mra's have shown this and what could be wrong,thanks for help.

Depending on the size and location of the dissection it could be missed on the MRA and spiral CT. Although in most cases there are abnormalities to indicate that a dissection had occurred. Vertebral dissections are typically caused by fast abrupt movements of the neck in a rotational or whip-lash manner. You have posted two WBC counts from your spinal tap without the remainder of the cell counts (specificallt the amount of blood in the tap) I cannot determine if these are abnormal. Perhaps a diagnosis such as a complicated migraine should be considered. A consultation with a neurologist who specializes in headaches would be reasonable. Good luck.

I had these kinds of symptoms for many months after a chiropractor twisted and pushed my pelvis. I still have many residual problems, but am much better. It took a long time. People with Arnold Chiari (type1)Malformation, sryingomyelia, and/or tethered spinal cord report the symptoms you have described.   I have been diagnosed with congenital adult tethered spinal cord ( fairly asymptomatic until the injury in 1998) The World Arnold Chiari Malformation Association, and the American
Syringomyelia Alliance Project are helpful sites.
