hydrocepalus permenanet soliution...

Dear sir, i m rosario silvester i have a Hydrocephalus problem when i m 4month baby itself shunt has been done on right side for me. In the year 2003 again i had met the same problem so at Psg Hospital again another shunt operation has been done on left side of my brain. Till now i have no problem but on Dec-26-2010 again the same symptoms i have so at Psg hospital they done CT scan the report shows like i have mild Hydrocephalus problem. The doctor advised to do shunt operation again but on Jan-11-2011 i had done MRI scan in that report it shows like shunt flow was in was normal, now the Doctor told no need for operation and i m also normal now. I was literally confused i need a permanent solution for my problem nowadays  there is advanced shunt machines came like codman i m ready to do that operation thinking of my future shall i do revised shunt operation now?. so please dcotor tel me the clear cut life long solution for me if needed i go for advanced shunt machine operation. I m awaiting for your reply... Thank you....

Hi there. Other options apart from VP shunts is third ventriculostomy which involves passing an endoscope through the lateral ventricle in to the third ventricle and making a hole using a laser in its floor. Excess fluid drains through the hole into the subarachnoid space. Success rates are better when the cause is tumor or aqueductal stenosis, they are slightly lower when caused by hemorrhage or infection.  Since there is no tube, the risks associated with shunt are eliminated. Your neurosurgeon is the best judge. Take care.
