hypoxia question

if you had a short bout of hypoxia from inhaling nirtous oxide instead of air for about 3 breaths (dumb i know wont do it again) over a period of 1-2 minutes could you have enough oxygen deprivation to cause serious brain damage. I have convinced myself i have brain damage from this one event.

If my brain was seriously lacking oxygen wouldn't I have passed out? The doctors I've seen seem to think this is just anxiety and put me on medication for this (much overdue). I have yet to have an MRI or anything cuz they dont think i need one.

It has just been hard for me to concentrate and "study" information with slight dull headache ever since. My brain just seems to be less effecient :/

Hi there. Nitrous oxide is an inhalational anesthetic agent used in a mixture of 70% N2O with 30% O2. Three breaths over a period of 1-2 mins will not cause hypoxia. Though this gas is known to be associated with diffusion hypoxia and a person needs to be supplemented with 100% Oxygen therapy after N2O is stopped as an inhalational agent. However you rest assured that this brief inhalation won’t have caused any hypoxic damage. More so since you never became dizzy or lost consciousness, have been alert since the episode, this is unlikely. Take help of anti anxiety drugs and psychotherapy from a psychiatrist, if needed.
