input ideas help for new diagnosis on 12 year old

any idea on what to do to help a child understand and cope with a new fairly severe onset of this?  She is having full ody dystonic reactions 3-5 x a day   out of no where!    how long before we see a chaneg with the meds    I l know what the soctors say but how often do the meds work?   are there better or additional things anyone has tried other tham meds?  right now she is fairly under with ativan every 4 hours 1-2mg and then starting artane (think thats spelled right) any advice experience web sites(for her and me) and support groups out there would be appreciated

Is the dystonic reaction in response to medications? What is her diagnosis?
