intense pain and tremors in hands

intense pain and tremors in hands

Hi Last year I had both hands operated on for carpal tunnel surgery repair. Prior to the surgery I had complete numbness in all my fingertips, and often dropped things. The physio told me afterwards that I had a huge amount of muscle wastage in my thumbs and possibly would never get this back. For awhile I had no recurrence of regular carpal tunnel symptoms although interestingly some of the symptoms remained, intense pain in joint between thumb digits, muscles around base of thumb, areas between all hand & knuckle joints. I cant write more than 50 words without mega pain so bad I have to stop writing, consequently I type everything out. I cant open screw top jars, I have  sharp shooting pains in my right elbow joint, and the muscles around my hands constantly ache. Last time I went to the Doctor he asked me to do a few movements with my fingers and nothing happened. No movement, then the thumb I was trying to move twitched in a series of jerky movements. I notice sometimes if I rest my forearm on a surface while using a computer mouse that my fingers will start twitching and trembling.
My feet are also playing up, I have had plantar faciitis for 3 years or more, diagnosis ranges from Plantar F to carpal tunnel, but either way, standing or walking for long periods is agony, my knees hurt unbearably. I've tried heaps of orthotics, physio, and acupuncture. The acupuncturist suggested I have a nerve damage as a result of L5S1 disc removal 18 years ago, trapped nerve damage etc. Who knows? its all a mystery of pain and being tossed around from one  medico to the next trying to work out what is the problem. I also couldnt perform some functions with my toes, as with hands, ( this led the podiatrist to conclude I had nerve damage as a result of carpal tunnel in ankles)
Today I was reassured these symtoms (symptoms) are not motor neurone disease, as 3 members of my family died from it, so that is a relief that I dont have that, but please, can anyone help me get to the bottom of this. The pain in my hands is chronic and continual. I'm 40 years old. I also take sodium valproate 200 mg daily for bi-polar II
thanks for your help

the ankle would be tarsel tunnel....I was told I had tarsel tunnel and had the surgery....6b yrs later I was diagnosed with chiari, fibro, cervical spinal stinosis and hashimotos thyroiditis...which can cause alot of the same symptoms u mentioned....having these pains is very trying on a person as the drs never seem to agree...as for ur twitching...have ur potasium checked also.....full labs and MRI's of ur brain, neck, and complete spine......I hope u find what is at the root of ur symptoms.

Please check out the forums for these conditions I mentioned and check out the health pages in each forum.

Good luck
Godspeed
