it hard to stand up and urniate

to make the story short  my numbness problem finally got bad enough for me to go to hospital..i was there nine days ,had many test, came home.  just having pt.    now i got myself to walk some again. with canes.  doing therapy to get better .  my question is i took out the foley after being in for a month, with nothing but pain and spasms.  i self cath much of the time ,but can go a little sometimes.  both require that i stand up over the toilet.which is very hard on me.  i dose not happen if i sit.  well maybe if i bend over and put my hands on the floor and push hard.  that used to work all the other times this has happened to me.   i do have several disc that are herniated.  the old 2003  ones both are the problem.  one is one of the ones in the thorasic T5/6 i guess it says compression, protrusion with a bone spur that impinges the cord.   this is the one they say is doing the numbing from the mid chest down to my toes.  i still get that way sometimes it lets up some and the pain crashes in.ugh!!!   oh i have fibromyalgia   so much of this is being blamed on it i think.  the other is the chronic pain one in my lumpbar 5/6 .its gotton a little worse ,,,but they are not paying much attention to that except that it is on the discharge diagnosis.      i told family that i hac cauda equina syndrome .so they would have a name for what happened to me,but i don't think my doctor thinks this is so,  any suggestions???   if anyone needs more info i will tell more  but i dont want to bore anyone, for as ive read this site for a few days .many are worse off than i.

I'm not quite sure what your question is. If you are referring to why you having pain and spasms after taking out the Foley, I'm not sure, a urologist might be a better person to answer the question

Anyone with a foley catheter is at risk of a urinary tract infection and this commonly causes symptoms of spasm, urgency or a bloody foul smelling urine. In this case, testing the urine for infection is very important. Also passing renal stone is very painful and may be a cause. Have your doctor evaluate you for these possibilities as soon as you can.

Spasm or urinary urgency or inability to pass urine can be cause directly by spinal cord lesions as the nerve fibers to the urinary organs course through the spinal cord very close to the leg muscle nerves - hence if there are urinary symptoms in combination with leg spasticity, the urinary symptoms have a high chance of beign spinal realted and warrant immedaite attention in case surgery or steroid are needed (in the acute setting)

Good luck

i guess i wasnt clear...  my diagnosis was ,acute intractable ,ddd, lower back pain, acute urinary retention, acute lumbar disk herniation, lumbar myelopathy, thoracic stenosis(my 2003 heriation is still there  but also a spur is impinging the cord)    no surgery was done   it was discourage i should say=not sure if it was because of the risk or that it probably would not take care of the pain or problem and make it worse.  i went in numb so bad this time i could not get out my bed for more that the usual short hours to a day.  i wanted to be cathed  rest and go home.. so i should not complain. was in nine days for all the test . and it took that long for me to be strong enought to walk pretty good with the walker..i have had 7 weeks of therapy in home which is up soon and then will go out for it.. my left leg moves well but is numb )feels no pin, cold ,wet ect. and has constant and very painful nerve pain in it..  The right is better as far as pain it was hyper senitive for about a month.  now just a numb feeling, toes are starting to curl, feel like i am walking on lumping socks (this was happening for weeks before) (i had these numb sciatic attacks =i called them= all summer.each getting worse and longer in duration  ==no one listens to me )  now this.  anyway   i am finally getting treated for my bladder spasms(from foley in one month or spinal problem or both?? and retention  on the two usual meds for that. one week now . and it is somewhat better..i can go at least some of the time, but i still have to cath remainder and keep track of both and cath just because i cant go...my studid question was i have to do it standing up because it wont worked other wise. is that usual and i was complaining because it is very uncomfortable and unstable for me to do that..because of my back.   so thats all. so far the spasm are still with me.. mostly after i pee or cath but the hard ones that feel like a charley horse and the stomache  muscles even get hard   are really bad feel like  a big stick rammed up there too....         will that go away with time?     it still hurts to sit , stand move .and i really go numb if i walk more than a few yards....try to shop pushing a cart or with my canes..  i give  in to a electric cart i afraid.   i hope this will change soon.  i know its only been a few months (this last big attack start jan -but christmas day was misrable ... i hung in almost till dinner was made..my daughter finished  .  i should have let her doit like she wanted to.     do i have c e s   it feels  like it  or is it just  a common thing.   my in home nurse dose not even know what i have... i stated that i should be taught the disease process  she did  not no what that ment.  and i have had no support ,or knowlege ...so ive been left to search for my self.               i feel worse in some ways  i may be stronger, i can move the right leg that was like a dead limb.at first  i have a long way to go on both limbs though.  like i said its only been a few months....is this a forever thing or will i get better.  and will like  twenty times before...happen again.                   joy williams
