left leg numb after colon surgery

by kalan, Oct 19, 2007 09:25PM
on oct. 2nd i had 8 inches of my colon removed, the next day when i got out of my bed and attempted to get into a chair next to  my bed i  realized that my left leg had no feeling at all. my colon surgeon explained to me that since they could not do the planned lathroscopic ? procedure they had to open me up from about 2 inches above my belly button down to my pubic area, and that they probably hit a nerve in the process, but it should come back, he had a neurosugeon check me a couple of days later, thsi doctor used the reflex hammer then a pin to test and said i should see him in about 5 weeks, on release day they set me up an appointmet for nov. 21, the numbes originally was from the hip to the foot, it is now and has been for about 1 week or so from the mid thigh to to mid/lower calf, i also ahve noticed an occassional pain now and again over the last 2 days, a shooting pain in my leg, so i assume that i am regaining some of the nerve, i would like to know is it ok to request a visit with the neuo doc earlier than the 21st, or should i just keep on plugging away, i walk about 1 mile every day, sometimes i will walk a second time but only about 1/2 mile, i have excersices from p.t. techs at the hosptial, also if i ask for and get another appointment with the neuro doctor what are good questions to pose to him and are there tests that i should request
thank you

Recently had colon cancer surgery just the same as kalan, my left leg has the same issues like leg numbness which has never subsided and throughout the the day I will lose control of my leg and foot which then I stumble out of control.  Day of surgery I walked into the hospital perfectly fine and left with an impairment that seems to be getting worse and I walk as if i'm a criple.  Manny
