left shoulder blade pain shooting to left head pain

It has been a week since I had the left shoulder blade pain that shoots up to left side of the head. Whenever I move my left arm in certain motion it gives me pain on my head on the left top. If I sit still, I feel no pain.

I am suspecting t this is the result carrying my sleeping baby on my left shoulder which  caused  my neck to stretch. Or another possibility is I got this from  sleeping on a reclining chair in one position at night time which I have been doing to reduce my acid reflux problem. I also suspected that this is side effect of my drug "protonix" for my acid reflux.I have been on this drug for two weeks but just stopped and substituted with prilosec. my  shoulder blade pain and head pain take place simultaneously.
What do you think is the problem? Should I be very concerned and go to see a neurologist?

Dear Dr. Srivastava,

Will a complete rest on my left arm and left shoulder and some home massaging with bengay ointment or tiger balm help to relieve and cure? will any partcular OTC drug help, too? I do not have health insurance to cover  all kinds of diagnostic test and prescription drug.

If I do not move my left arm (that causes to not move my left shoulder blade), I feel ok. When I applied heat pad, I feel good, too. It only bothers me with a dull pain on my left side of head whenever I make a sudden move my left shoulder blade sometimes.

Thanks, and your comment is always appreciated

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you, I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.

Usually pain in the left portion of the head along with radiation to shoulder originates from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine because the nerves that supply the back of the head start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, similar kind of head pain that radiates to shoulder occurs in patients with previous neck injuries and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine. Typically this pain aggravates with prolonged sitting in a stooped posture and when working on a computers for long hours.  If you suffer continuous symptoms like that, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who may evaluate the possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!
