left temple sensation and pain
Left temple area down to mid ear very sensative. Temple is tender after headache starts in same place every time. Seems as if when blood pressure goes up due to stress, excercise, heat, drinking or household chores throbbing pressure pain starts in the same place. Sometimes radiates downward and ear will feel full and hot. When i feel the headache coming on I take two aspirins. Pain goes away and stays away if I'm not doing much. But dull sensitive sensation and pressure is still there. If I'm being active pain will come back in about 4 hrs. I take another two aspirins pain ususually stays away. Whats strange is sometimes my vision in my left eye will become doubled. Double vision subsides once tenderness goes away almost like there's a healing process in my temple before vision is restored. Recently though numbness across my left cheek bone to my nose has started. I've had an MRI found nothing I saw many white ping marks on my scan. Dr. prescribed migrain med. but didn't take it because aspirin works (almost as if it thins my blood so it flows better). Pain has also started going down behind my ear to the left side of neck. THis is becoming very dibilitating. Feel as if I can't be active to do normal things without taking aspirin so I won't get the headache daily. Could this be sinus related even though I don't have breathing problems? Please help!
You should consider getting an eye examination to rule out certain conditions that may cause these symptoms!!
I have the same problems with my left side. I am diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. Look it up. Maybe it cann help u if u mention this to ur neurologist. I also suffer from migraines and occcipital neuralgia. Pray u don't have those best of luck if u do. Its terrifying pain and progressively gets worse. I'm afraid ur symptoms were my beginning symptoms before my nightmare began. Good luck to u both and god bless. Jaclynn
I found your comments on the internet after experiencing similar symptoms you mention, numbness in my temple that radiates to forehead and cheek sometimes. My eyes seemed to be watery and I sometimes have to blink to focus...my eye doctor says nothing is wrong with my eyes. I went to the family doctor today and she is having a CBC blood test ordered and then CAT scan. I am scared because I don't know what this is...I get headaches during my period and just occasional headaches...but have never had this numbing sensation. If I rub my left temple there is tenderness. I do grind my teeth and told this to my family doctor. She says her best guess is the teeth grinding but wants me to get these tests taken to be sure and then would refer me to an Ear Nose & Throat specialist if everything is okay with the blood and CAT scan. I am a little overweight and was worried it could be my heart. I also have some lower back pain. Not sure if this has anything to do with the numbness. It does seem to get more annoying when I'm sitting down or on the computer. I am 38. Any additional posts would be welcomed so I try and figure this out!
Did these symptoms ever go away for either of you? About 3 weeks ago I woke up with intense pain only on the left side of my face . I feel pain and pressure all day behind my left temple and eye. This often moves into the left side of my nose and cheek. It is there when I wake up in the morning and all day, however, the pressure behind my eye gets stronger and stronger as the day comes to a close. My doctor says my sinuses are fine and it is probably migraines, but medication only takes the edge off and only for about one hour. I got the hormone IUD about a month ago and am wondering if this is a contributing factor. Did any of you find the cause of your pain. It is hard to function daily while is pain. I am 28.
I am hoping someone with similar condition or with some medical knowledge of these issues can give me some assurance/advice. I have a strange tingling sensation, mild throb/pain, and pressure in my right temple. I had some mild periodic blurred vision (usually happened when on computer) and a discomfort in my upper tooth; at times the sensation does seem to radiate down my jaw. I went to various dr/dentist/opt. for these in the past few weeks. Yesterday the eye dr. saw me, looked behind the eye at the nerve, and basically dismissed me and said to call in four days if it continues. I am terrified that this is an aneurysm ready to blow...is this likely? I know other things (sinuses, TMJ, night grinding, etc) could possibly cause such symptoms, but this doesn't seem to make me any less afraid right now. Has anyone else every experienced this? I do have sinus issues, but it has never manifested like this before.)

A brief story...so many years ago I had to repeat part of my internship in the south west of London/England..there if a patient wanted to offend a doctor would call him a Mr...and if wantend to offend a surgeon would call him Dr..LOL.

So, at this young age and a pain is with over excertion, and tenderness /numbness of the face..makes cardiac cephalgia much less likely (the youngest reported age was 40)..but still worth keeping it in mind and worth asking your GP for an ECG any ischemic changes, bundle branch block or atrial fibrillation...ext (the physical exam would help decide if you need more like a holter monitoring or even an execise test) But the real mony is bellow.
One year after your birth a headache specialist (Sjaastad) reported a new treatable headache entity (as if you were there giving him your story excpet for the eye tearing but the double vision could be due to congestion as well) called " paroxysmal hemicrania"
In 2005 Dr. Goadsby , another very pleasant headache specialist mentioned that tearing does not happen in all the patients (only ~ 60 %)
In our medical words we say thhe pain is most severe in the auriculo(ear)temporal area, the forehead, and above or behind the ear. It may spread to involve the ipsilateral shoulder, arm, and neck. Between attacks, you may have tenderness (pain on touching the area) in the symptomatic area
Though, it could start between 6 to 81 years of old BUT the mean age is 34 years (I think somhow you were there in 1974)
May occure at night, and ~ 10-15% are precipitated mechanically, either by bending or by rotating the head or by external pressure against the bony part of the cervical spine (C2, C3, C4),
The ear pain and a feeling of fullness in the ear has been reported also in ~1998-1999 but I cnt remember the name of the Dr.
One different thing from another type of headache called "Cluster headache" (which was always thought a disease of men only , but its not) is in Paroxismal hemicrania you prefer to stay calm and rest while in cluster the person become restless and move around BUT if INDOMETHACIN did not give you a relieve (I doupt that), then we should go back and think of Cluster headache as a possible cause of your headache
Up to this pont, we talked about a primary (PH) Paroximal hemicrania, BUT we always have to rule out a secondary PH esp if they are treatable, though they may not be commomon, so ask your doctor to help you doing
1-CBC to R/O increased platelets & red blood cells
2- You have no H/O head trauma and your MRI is normal
3- ESR and better CRP if in 24 hr after the headache to R/O vasculitis esp you had some WM spots in your MRI
4- chest x-ray should be considered to look for any possible mass in the upper part of the chest (very unlikely in your case)
A good hint for a possible Secondary paroxysmal hemicrania if you needed more than 200 mg/day of indomethacin
Note : If the pain become on both side (bilateral), a spinal tap should be done to look for intracranial hypertension, even if you are responding to indomethacin.
I'm not sure what you meant by "hormones that are released" in the IUD I started that in Oct. 06

Thank you Mr. Hilton for your response. Yes, my age is 33. Since I last posted my left upper side of my face feels like it is going more numb/dull sensation/pressure. Around high cheek bone near my eye back to just before my ear left ear up to temple just to about where by brow bone starts. I have been seeing a chiropractor for a month and he indicated to me that my C2 and C3 are not positioned as they should be (tips are somewhat close together but not touching). When the Chiropractor uses ultra sonic message on that side of my face it feels very tender like a wound thats healing over. Not painful just very strange feeling. I get the headaches from over excertion just above the area I explained where the numbness is. This strange sensation also is I present on my neck below the earlobe near my jaw. In the area of where you would take a pulse. I find myself grabbing that area frequently. I've been to the neurologist and my family prac. THis is very hard to make Drs. understand but I know this isn't right. Of course the worst is going through my mind. I have two young boys and I think this compounds it. Mr. Hilton do you have any recommendations for when I go to the next Dr. to explain this. Is there a test they are overlooking? Is this maybe do to unexplained weight gain of about 15 lbs with last 2-3 months. I thought maybe is was from the hormones that are released in the IUD I started that in Oct. 06'. I also think I might have a bad tooth on my left side but the dentist says it looks fine. But sometimes this feeling of pressure radiates down to my gum on the left side. Maybe this is TMJ? Who knows all I do know is this is getting worse not better even under Chiro. care. But I don't know who to go to so this can be fixed. Is 73 is your age or its the year of birth? because the diagnosis could be different!! There is a headache called Cardiac Cephalgia (migraine) or Walk headache ..comes with excertion..it might have a very wise decision not to take the Migraine meds (the enemies of the older hearts)
Other wise the hint of worst headache +good response on asperin in younge women is a different way to go (almost your differential diagnosis among 3-4 cases and the therapy is by Indomethacin a half brother of Aspirin)
About the ear could an inocent bystander of any thing beacause its supplied by a number of different sensory nerves, including cranial nerves 5,7,9,10 as the cervical plexus (the roots from the neck).
So don't feel bad typing a full page explaining to me every single thing (the best cure to a headache patient starts with a detailed history including the family one as well).....Bob

I have migraines & sometimes an allergy or sinus problem will cause a migraine. Do you have an aura other than double vision b/4 the headache? It also sounds like it could be related to inner ear. You are lucky if an aspirin stops the pain. It usually takes strong med to stop a migraine. Have you tried an antihistamine or decongestant to see if that helps? best wishes!
