hi. im 22 years old, and for the past month i've had a very localized twitch on the outter/lateral side of my left upper calf.. it very uncomfortable , i don't have any muscle weakness or anything else, just this twitch that is not present all the time, more so when my muscle is relaxed in a certain position.. any ideas what it could be??..
i don't want to be dramatic about it , you know googling things is terrible cause you always jump to the conclusions of ALS, MS, etc its just because it so localized, seems to flare up worse when i m stressed.. would love to here if anyone had anything similar or any ideas
This muscle spasm is also called as muscle fasciculation & appears when the muscle contracts on its own (without nerve stimulation). Most of the times these symptoms occur without any underlying disorder & they are not harmful or may appear after anxiety, hormonal imbalance, viral illness or long term illness. But sometimes this muscle twitching appears as atrophy and weakness of muscle as well. Most likely cause of this twitching with weakness/atrophy of muscle can be when the nerve supplying to muscles is not functioning properly due to any neurological disorder. If you suffer continuous weakness and notice reduced strength of muscle bulk in areas, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!
