low sodium/ elevated liver enzymes put me stupor

by skyAAA, Nov 12, 2008 03:18PM
2 1/2 weeks ago I had to go into the hospitial because I was found sitting on my bed in a stupor.  I wouldn' t respond to questions, but made some noises or something.  I had been drinking a lot of water because I was dieting and was taking alot tylenol (2000mg-3000mg/day) for several months due to a recent surgery.  The ER doc found my sodium level down to 116 norma(135-145) and my liver enzymes were up several times what they should have been.  Also, I had some blood, ketones and protein in my urine.  They said my Glascow Coma Scale (GLC) number was 8/16.  They said I was in a stupor, not a coma.  The next day I woke up and my GLC score was 15/16.  They also did and CT scan of my brain and liver but nothing showed up.  Several days later my they checked my tylenol level and ammonia and they were okay.

They main question I have was what happened to my brain.  I'm still having some perceptual problems, like people look funny/ really ugly and things sound extra loud sometimes.  My hands sometimes feel really heavy likes rocks.  and my memory is bad.  When I drive around thngs look unfamiliar.  Also, I drove in the city the other nite and drove the wrong way down some one way streets.  (my neurologist said I could drive, but maybe not).

Is this some kind of  delirium or dementia?  Will I recover?  Do I need an EEG or Brain MRI?  I read where high liver enzymes can mean you are getting excess ammonia which can effect your brain.  Also, the low sodium can make your brain swell, but there was nothing on the  CT scan.

If anyone and help me understand any of this it would great.  I'm not getting to much info. from my doctors.  I do know my blood and urine is back to normal and my neurologist wants to see me back in a few weeks.

Thanks..(first time here)
