hello dinky,
if you are not a diabetic, then you definitely, must be having a spine problem. Most probably, it's a disc prolapse with or without bony pathology(lysthesis, lysis).
First get ans x-ray done of the thoraco-lumbar spine and post it here. I can help you on that.

Thew liklihood is you are suffering from sciatica, a condition caused by a deterioration of nthe cartilige between the lumbar sections of the lower spine. Your physician should have picked this up right awqay.

An x-ray is pointless, and meaningless, unless you happen to live in a town without flush toilets.

You require an MRI of the lower spine, L1-L5. That is the preferred diagnostic procedure circa 2009, the United States of America.

The diagnosis can be made by any competent physician by examining the exact points of discomfort, which form what is called a "pain dermatome".

There is a possibility you are also experience a hernia, or a circulatory problem, as well. I would have a doplar done of both legs. I am always concerned about groin pain.

So let's go to square 2.

Treatment options:

(1) Special exercises under the supervision of a qualified physical rehab specialist. These will require several sessions to learn how to do them. Anti-inflammatories such as motrin are helpful.

(2) Avoid strain to the lower back and learn how to lift properly.

(3) keep well-hydrated.

(4) Avoid riding in a car. If you do, get a foam pad for the seat to eliminate up-and-down vibrations.

(5) See your physician about prescribing a TENS device.

(6) If all else fails a surgical procedure called a laminectomy is often recommended. I would undergo this only as a last resort.
