malignant glioma of the thalamus

malignant glioma of the thalamus

I live in the UK.  25 years ago i lost my son Robert aged 9 with a highly aggressive malignant glioma of the thalamus.  I wondered if there is any successful treatment for this kind of tumour nearly 25 years later or would the prognosis still be bad.  My son was fit and well until a few months before he died.  He was the love of my life and the greatest blessing i have ever known.   They tried to operate but said that by the time my son got to them it was too late to do anything.  My son died the following morning after the operation.  All the doctors could tell me was that it was an unusual tumour for a child and usually found in older people and they really don't know what causes brain tumours.  Do we know yet what causes brain tumours.  I also wondered if head xrays Robert had when a baby following a fall may have caused the brain tumour. Any answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.  Anne
