meninginoma

I am a 36 year-old female who was diagnosed with a 2.3cm meninginoma of the right parietal lobe. This was diagnosed through a CT-scan and a MRI. These tests were ordered because I had experienced a severe case of dizzines and nausea that I never had before. I ended up going to the hospital (ER) where their first diagnosis was labrinthytis. To my knowledge I never experienced a seizure. I am concerned about whether or not to have surgery. I am a very active person and I am currently attending college. I would appreciate any advice you could give me, thanks.

Dear Emilia,
Meningiomas are, for the most part, slow growing benign tumors.  They have
characteristics on CT and MRI that are rather distinctive in diagnosing these
tumors.  From what you describe, you are not having symptoms from the tumor
and it was likely an incidental finding.  The problem is that the tumor will
slowly get larger over the coming years (you have many left) and will likely
cause problems at some point.  Knowing this a neurosurgeon will often recommend
the removal of such a tumor because surgery is easier when the tumor is small.
Also, you are young and you will recover quickly.
Give it some thought.  You have time as this is no urgent issue, but the tumor
can affect you in later life if left untreated.  Talk this over with your
surgeon and see if he doesn't agree.
Good luck.
