Generally, mercury testing is ordered by a doctor to detect exposure to mercury in people who work in industries of potentially hazardous materials. Symptoms of burning in the mouth and lungs, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, blurry vision, tingling or tremors in the arms or legs, difficulty walking and problems with hearing, taste and smell could be suggestive of excessive exposure of mercury. Blood and hair is mainly tested to detect the presence of methyl mercury. Metallic mercury can be detected in urine only. Sometimes mercury can also be present in nails, breast milk, and stool. Normal reference range of mercury in blood, urine and hair could be dissimilar in different-2 laboratory settings. Therefore, it will be best to consult a doctor for the mercury testing. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards.
