multiple myeloma

My mother is 75 yrs old and has multiple myeloma.After being on a dose of thalidomide 100mg for 2.5 yrs, she lost urine control, was treated for salt and potassium deficience and now has burning sensation in hands and feet. she is having Gabapantin 100mg twice a day. Pl. advise.She is presently taking no medicine for treating myeloma since April `08 because of the side effects of the previous treatment.

Thalidomide is known to cause peripheral neuropathy which is causing burning hands and feet.

Gabapantin is the correct prescribed treatment. Please ask her to continue with the medications and hopefully her symptoms will improve soon.
