muscle cramping and weakness after use

muscle cramping and weakness after use

I am a 28 yr male. I have had muscle cramping, weakness, and slight spasms after light activities such as lifting 25 pounds.  I have had normal EMG, MRI of Brain w/o contrast and CT scan.  I also have pain in neck and dizziness occasionally but not related to activity.  I have also had normal stress test and thallium test.  My labs have shown high cpk once 253, high rbc count once.  Any ideas of where to go with this.  I am about tested out.

It seems to get better if I rest the muscles (about two days) but become weak again after activity.
In the beginning I would be fatigued but now it is just muscle weakness.

Thanks.

First of all, is is impossible to perform a diagnosis over a bulleten board. Plus, my opinion is pretty worthless, according to every woman I have ever known. Youy symptoms suggest a calcium-channel issue. Systemic muscle weakness is often related to a problem with calcium transfer within the muscle cells. The solution may be as simple as taking a calcium supplement or drinking two glasses of milk a day. There are other more serious possibilities best evaluated by a teaching hospital, but give your-self a "calcium challange" by drinking a quart of milk every day for three days and see if your symptoms improve.

Thanks for your response.  I will try that.  I usually drink a decent amount of milk a day but I wonder if any medications that I am taking could be causing this.  i am on exforge a bp medicine and zantac.

Any thoughts about the meds.

Thanks.

Could this be related to parathyroid glads?

Hi Derek,
I think there is a possibility that your BP medication is the cause. Exforge comprises of valsartan and amlodipine. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and is known to cause muscle cramps which is not a very common side effect but occurs nonetheless. Please discuss this with your treating physician so he can either adjust the dose or switch to another drug.

Thanks for the response, the only thing is that it started before they switched me to Exforge.  I was on Labetalol before that and had symptoms.
