muscle twitching, problems writing, weakness, weight loss

by vilkas, May 24, 2007 12:00AM
I will be 41 years old this year.  It started in January, 2007, when my muscles were twitching on my upper body, like my back, arms, etc.  Then my calves in my legs are tightened up and cramp all the time.  My back is always sore.  I started noticing that I'm very weak and when I mean weak, I mean I can't lift a pack of cola without straining.  I experience problems lifting my arms over my head, like when you have to wash your hair, brush your hair & even brushing my teeth is a challenge, now.  I will break out in a sweat if I do any of these things.  I can't climb the stairs at home anymore without effort.  I started to notice my arm's muscle tone is gone.  I will stretch my legs while I'm sleep and they both start shaking uncontrollable.  My middle finger on my right hand and my ring finger on my left hand stay bent all the time.  I can't unbutton or button my clothes very well.  I have trouble writing, typing or flicking my lighter.  I went to GNC and started making amino & creatine milkshakes, like I use to drink when I pumped weights to try to make me feel less weak.  I make them 2 times a day, but I haven't felt any different.

I went to the internet to start researching my symptoms to find out what could be wrong, I found out a lot of my symptoms are like the ones with ALS.

I haven't experienced problems swallowing or breathing.  I checked other websites with these symptoms and ruled them out, like Muscular Dystrophy, MS, Parkinson's disease,  and so many others.  I'm really hoping that I don't have ALS.  I just would like answers on what I can do to prevent getting worse.

Does this sound like I have ALS?  I'm really clueless at this time.

You need to see a neurologist soon to evaluate all of this.   I suggest you push for the earliest appointment you can get.  The fear of ALS  can be paralyzing, but there are other entities this could be.  We can't answer that.  You need an eval NOW.  Good Luckm Quix
