MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there. Muscle wasting could be due to disuse atrophy like sedentary jobs, medical conditions limiting their movement or decreased activity levels can lose muscle tone and develop atrophy. Other type is neurogenic atrophy, which occurs when there is an injury to or disease of a nerve connecting to the muscle like in polio, guillain barre syndrome or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Certain atrophies are age related like injury, osteoarthritis, severe malnutrition, spinal cord injury, stroke, long-term corticosteroid therapy etc. Consult a neurologist for evaluation and examination. You might require elaborate rehabilitation, certain blood tests, CTscans, EMG, NCV, muscle or nerve biopsy.  Further management would be determined by the diagnosis and physiotherapy care. Take care.
