: Can myelomalacia in the center of Cervical Cord at C5-6 cause Multiple System Degenerations?  If so, how long before organ deterioration begins to manifest itself.  Can the resultant symptoms be similar to Shy-Drager Syndrome, or is it MSA?  What is the prognosis in terms of years?  Are there any preventative measures that can be taken?

Hello Cindy,
Multiple systems atrophy are a group of neurodegenerative disorders that have in varying constellation of symptoms including cognitive decline, low blood pressure, features of parkinsonism (slowness of movement, stiffness of body), and unsteadiness of gait.  There is yet no known cause for these disorders however there have been some genetic predisposition in some cases.  Very often Levo DOPA is not beneficial in these patients as it is in patients with Parkinson
