myelomalacia

myelomalacia

3 years ago my wife had fusion of C3 to C7.  Post surgury she awoke with symptoms of a stroke affecting her left side.  Her orthopedic surgeon told us she had RSD and did not refer us to Neurolgy.  Sypmtoms improved somewhat but her main disability was decrease function of her left hand and has left her with severe pain.  Treatment that we received was limited to physical therapy.  After the pain became so severe we were refered to a pain clinic (2 years since surgury).  An MRI was done and the doctor that was treating her pain told us that she infact had an injury to her spinal cord that was related to the surgury.  Over the last year she has been receiving Stellet ganglion blocks to help with the pain.  Most reciently she began having severe pain to the Right shoulder.  A repeat MRI was done and she has been diagnosised with Left Hemicord Myelomalacia.  Our primary care doctor has refered us to a Neurologist.  He was not sure what treatments are available now for this condition.  My question is can this type of condition progress and is their any treatment that can help relieve the pain - other than the blocks and pain medicine.
