myotonic dystrophy and tegretol

I have a pt. c Myotonic Dystrophy.  His two sibling daughters live back east and have been started on tegretol for this.  I have no information on the use of tegretol for this condition, saw your web site  do you know of any studies/ published on the use of tegretol and myotonis dystrophy.  a PA in CA

nothing has been published on this topic in the last 5 years , however I
have found a few isolated case reports of the use of Tegretol in the
treatment of myotonia in the 1970's and 80's. The drug has a menbrane
stabilizine effect which reduces the sustained muscle contraction (myotonia )
which is a feature of the disorder. It is indicated if this symptom is not
prominent.
I have attached  a  reference which you may find useful.

Sechi GP.  Traccis S.  Durelli L.  Monaco F.  Mutani R.
Carbamazepine versus diphenylhydantoin in the treatment of myotonia.
