need info on stroke cure

by Kathy-Cros, Oct 09, 1998 12:00AM

I  saw oan artical where a man had had a stroke 3 years earlier, and they injected something in his brain that rejuvinated his brain cells, within 3 weeks he was already better. Do you know anything about this?
Dear Kathy,
Without a name of the specific drug injected, it is difficult to comment.  One approved therapy for acute stroke is thrombolysis. The medication is given intravenously.  It helps to establish blood flow to areas of the brain that may be losing  oxygen and nutrient supply (ischemic tissue)after a clot has blocked an artery.  The therapy is given is the first few hours of the stroke BEFORE the brain tissue has died and the damage is less reversible. ?This may be the therapy you were describing. The medication was approved by the FDA a few years ago. I hope this information helps.
