nerous tic in and adult

nerous tic in and adult

My husband has had a nervous tic for most of his life.  it is cause by trauma, the loss of his mom at a very young age, living with his grandparents, ect.  it has changed throught his life to suit people around him, if his grandparents' noticed one tic (eye blinks)  they would ridicule him and he would change it.  it now consists of a full body "hic-up".  sometimes he can controll it to contain it to his stomach but it is constant, many per min.  the more stressed out he is, the worse it gets.  trying to controll it is exausting for the both of us (me trying not to mention it or make him feel embarassed about it).  he has tried therapy, which did lessen the tic but it never went away.  is medication the only option?

Is he still tic'ing when he is asleep?
I would try maybe to find a doctor that treats tourettes and talk to some of them, and see what they suggest. There are always new things to try and see what works for your husband.
