nerve damage in hand

I was in a car accident a while ago. I had surgery on the top of my hand. I had major lacerations and tendon and ligament damage. I still have been getting tingly feelings and pain when I use my hand a lot. Someone said this may be nerve damage? Should I get it looked at? Would I have to get surgery again?

tay5, i just posted a boxers fracture/neurology question. from what i know, you could have an impinged nerve, particularly in your elbow area or even shoulder,or wrist.so i would look at those things carefully. my sister in oregon listens to a holistic dr. bob martin on sunday am radio, and he recommends something called nerve fix. myself, i take triflex for joint repair.hand pain is terrible,i know, mine drives me crazy and limits my attention span.just typing thiis is very painful.good luck, respond if you want to.ricroc

Oh, definitely you should have your hand looked at again.  In some cities, there are "Hand Clinics," usually associated with a hospital complex, and that is where you should go this time.  It is very serious to damage your hand.

However, while the tingling could be from a nerve problem, it also sounds like swelling may be decreasing circulation in your hand, not a good thing when you're trying to heal.  I have to assume they got you into physical therapy for your hand, and if not, you most definitely need that.  And infection can cause swelling too, all the more reason to have a specialist look at your hand.  See, tingling is sometimes a circulation thing.

It is possible surgery might be necessary, if a nerve is impinged in a way that physical therapy won't fix.
