I'm the one with constant lights for 10 years.  I went to a website called JustAsk and asked an opthalmologist. He wondered if it could be beginning of retinitis pigmentosa or if I was seeing "retinal leukocytes"  Pursuing the latter led me to The American Journal of Pathology where, in much language that I could not understand of course, I learned of tests done on diabetic rats re "retinal lelukocytes."  I am diabetic (controlled) I will take that article to opthalmologist (about the 25th one) I am seeing next week.  In 10 years of searching, I have not found a treatment for this.  Have tried anti-seizure drugs,  migraine drugs. Perhaps, though, you would be helped by one of these.  I have, indeed, learned to live with it, but it has increased since recent cataract surgery. I assure you that you CAN live with this, although my first opthomologist said, "This will drive you crazy."  I got good advice when a spiritual friend, who also had a chronic problem, told me to "allow it to be"  In other words, accept it without focusing on it.  When I was first told I'd have to live with it, I became hysterical, but have since learned that I could. No one has previously mentioned the Diabetic/leukocyte connection, so I am anxious to know what the next doctor says about that. What helped me was when I had to decide to accept this as "normal for me."  I once found a website with other sufferers, but don't know how I got it.  No one had found an answer.  At least you know there are others (apparently very few), but it's so frustrating when specialist's jaws drop when you emphasize that the lights are CONSTANT.  Am wondering if you are diabetic and if that is the clue for both of us.  Would like to stay in touch.  You may email me direct at ***@****.  Perhaps together we can make some progress with this maddening symptom.

I have had that occasionally and my doctor (an internist) said that she has it too and it's called a "visual migraine." Migraine medicine usually does make it go away but since mine typically last only about 1/2 hour, by the time the medicine kicks in, they're usually gone. Since she, too, has them, I have to assume that she's done extra homework on what they were (and weren't). While annoying, because mine are short-lived and without pain, they're the least of my worries. They also tend to come and go in periods. Knock on wood, I haven't had one for months now. But sometimes, they're far more frequent. But mine have always gone away within an hour.

The fact that yours don't go away may be indicative of something else. But you may want to do some research on your own about these visual migraines and see what you find out.
