nueropathy-bruising from bites

3 days ago  I got bit by something about 5 times above my ankle but below my chin. They itched and looked like mosquito bites with welts. Every day sence then I have been gettin bruises all around that area about the size of a dime or bigger. I now have around 15 or so.  I have peroneal nueropathy in this leg mainly in the foot. Never had this happen and cant narrow it down to a certain type of insect. Wasnt sure if the nerve damage has anything to do with the bruising.  Im hoping someone here may know.

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.

Without the ability to obtain a history from you and examine you, I cannot comment on a formal diagnosis or treatment plan for your symptoms. However, I will try to provide you with some information regarding this matter.

There are certain neuropathies that unexplained bruising can occur, such as diabetic neuropathy.  This is usually due to poor circulation and because of this minor cuts or scrapes may be completely missed because of the numbness.  I’m not completely sure if there is an association between your neuropathy and the bruising, unless perhaps you have a vitamin deficiency.
Sometimes bruising can be a cause of a serious medical problem such as:

1)  Effects of medications or supplements — aspirin, anticoagulants (blood thinners), corticosteroids
2) Underlying bleeding or clotting disorder
3) Nutritional deficiencies of vitamins B12, C, K, or folic acid
4) inflammation of a blood vessel(s)
5) Liver diseases

I would recommend having your leg looked at by your primary care doctor.

Hope this information was helpful.  Best of luck!
