occasional dizzy spells

I have recently started having weird dizzy spells.  Not the normal ones like when you stand up too fast; I can be lying perfectly still in bed and have a wave of dizziness roll over me.  It also is not like 'room swirling'; it feels more 'directional' rolling from front to back...yes, more like a wave.  It lasts for a minute or less generally.  Turning over in my sleep will also sometimes cause the spell, but not always.  I have this perhaps once or twice a day.  Looking up for too long is also a problem...but then, how often do I do that?  LOL.  It also sometimes feels like my head is very heavy...and if I move it too much, a dizzy spell might occur.

Thanks for your help.
