  : : : : : : TWO YEARS AGO THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REMOVE ALL OF THE TUMOR.
  : : : : : : SHE HAD BEEN GETTING MRI'S EVERY THREE MONTHS WITH NO GROWTH UNTILL
  : : : : : : HER LAST MRI TWO YEARS TO THE DATE OF HER SURGERY. HER DOCTORS ARE TALKING ABOUT MORE SURGERY OR CHEMO OR BOTH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW TWO THINGS:
  : : : : : : HOW SUCESSFUL IS CHEMO ON THESE TYPES OF TUMORS AND ALSO IF THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL ON REMOVING THE TUMOR COMPLETELY WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF IT GROWING BACK ARE THERE ANY CASES WHERE CHEMO HAS EVER REMOVED THIS TYPES OF TUMOR COMPLETLY.

Thanks for your question and I would like to add a few things to what has already been said. Oligos make up 4 to 10% of primary brain tumors. The tumors are graded based on a number of histiological findings that then in turn can affect what type of treatment should be done. We now also know that patients that have anaplastic oligos may have some genetic markers that can give us an idea how the tumor may respond to chemotherapy. Treatment of these tumors is usually multidisciplinary. If you would like to see one of the brain tumor specialists at CCF to discuss this further please call 216 444 5559.
