Some degree of pain is normal after back surgery and the cause like you mentioned is because it takes time for the new bone to fuse.
Proper post op care is mandatory as also is rehab therapy. Please do not be in a rush to resume to daily activities. You can also get a clinical evaluation done by your surgeon just to make sure the healing is in progress.
