one more question about cavernous malformation

by Kely__0__0, Nov 24, 1998 12:00AM

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer this question. I wrote to you before because I was diagnosed with a cavernous malformation in my medulla. The report said it was 5mm and my nuerologist saod thats so small I shouldn't be alarmed.  Anyway - I took the films out because I wanted to see them. I measured the malformation with a little ruler and it is 5mm on the film. But the film is not true to size, so does that mean in reality its twice as big? I know this is a trivial question but I'm really curious.
  Thanks so much!
  Kelly
Dear Kelly:
I wouldn't worry about the actual measurement.  You are correct and the measurement is from the MRI image and if you measured 5mm then the actual measurement is likely just a tad bit bigger.  If you look at the scales on the MRI you should be able to translate the actual measurement.  However, a 5 mm angioma on the MRI is not significant.  I hope that you lead a wonderful and productive life.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro[P] MD, RPS
