optimising anti-convulsants

Our child has epilepsy caused by porencephalic cyst and hydrocephalus. Keppra, Phenobarb, epilum, teggratol and topirimate have been unsuccessful in the treatment of seizures. Has anyone any suggestions of medication, or alternative therapy, that may help in controlling or eradicating her epilepsy.

My daughter is 5 and also suffers from severe epilepsy. We have tried about 12 different meds unsuccessfully. She is scheduled to have the VNS implant in April. It is sort of like a pace maker but for the brain. It more effective on certain types of epilepsy but it certainly worth you looking in to. It was a very difficult decision for us. But after much research and weighing out all the pro's and con's, it is the best option for her. The company who makes the device is called Cyberonics and will send you any info you want on it. They have been very helpful. Good luck!
