pain

  : : : :
: : : : I have chronic mid back pain when my wife pushes on my back it always pops but i get relief is popping your back bad what are some major symptoms of a herniated thoracic disk and how are they usualy injured?????
  : : : =======================================================================
: : : Thanks for your question.  In contrast to cervical (neck) and lumbo-sacral
: : : (lower back) regions, the thoracic region in much less commonly injured
: : : for a number of reasons: a) relative imobility, the rib cage and adjacent
: : : structures allows for very little mobility in the thoracic region (the
: : : whole region moves almost as a block); little axial load bearing, in contrast
: : : to the lower vertebrae, much less of the body weight "sits own" the thoracic
: : : vertebrae.  Having said that, however, it is possible to had a "herniated"
  : : : disc in this region.
: : : If you symptoms are bothersome, it would be helpful to have a medical evaluation
: : : preferably by a neurologist specialized in peripheral nervous system.  Further
: : : studies, such as a MRI of the spine, can be decided if the symptoms and
: : : signs are suggestive of lesions.
: : : I hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck.

: Thanks for your question.  The reason I suggested a neurologist specialized
: in the peripheral nervous system is because radicular (nerve roots) and
: spinal cord symptoms occasionally can mimic peripheral nerve symptoms and
: these patients are usually referred to PNS neurologists.
: I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks for your feedback.  The only peripheral nerves in the thoracic region
are distributed in a "band-like" or "belt-like" fashion, wrapping around
your torso.  Therefore, a PN lesion in that region would have a "band-like"
presentation of symptoms - which did not appear to be your case.  The
"classic" PN in thoracic region that has that type of symptoms is "shingles"
or Varicela Zoster infection.
I hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck.
